To the pilot on an air operation, the threat can come from anywhere: a dusty pickup in the desert armed with a ground-to-air missile or a fifth-generation military fighter from a hostile nation.

 

This wide range of threats – from “simplistic to sophisticated” - is a true challenge for the Air Forces – also because it occurs in a highly complex environment of electronic warfare and air theatre deny access on potentially very large and distant theatre of operations.
